Mike Norkus

Howdy y’all! My name is Mike, and I’m proud to be a member of the Rocktown Outdoors Pro Staff team.

Background

I was born at Fort Ord, California, into an Army family, which meant moving quite a bit while growing up. Although I claim Kentucky as my home of record, I’ve lived in Colonial Heights, Virginia since retiring from both the Army and Civil Service.

Early Hunting Roots

I grew up hunting with my granddad and my dad, and over time that passion turned into a full-blown obsession—especially when it comes to bowhunting. I’m so committed to the sport that I also work part-time at my local sporting goods store as a bow technician. I love the challenge of bowhunting; in my opinion, bowhunters operate at the PhD level of hunting—up close and personal.

Bowhunting Experience

My bowhunting experience spans more than 60 years. I harvested my first deer with a bow at the age of 14 and have since bow hunted around the world, including South Africa, Argentina, Canada, and Mexico, as well as throughout the United States. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to take some incredible animals, including a record-book kudu during a South African hunt. While bowhunting is my true passion, I do occasionally hunt with a muzzleloader, shotgun, or rifle.

I enjoy sharing my hunting adventures on Facebook and Instagram (@bowhuntinmike). If you’re looking for quality equipment for your hunts or outdoor adventures—the same gear I trust—look no further than Rocktown Outdoors. We’ve got you covered.
